Egg price started to rise

ndh

The price of eggs, which had decreased due to the impact of bird flu, has started to rise. Prices have begun to increase because production has dropped and demand has gone up. The Nepal Layers Poultry Association sets market prices based on the rates determined by big farms. According to the association, starting today, the price of large eggs has increased from Rs 450 to Rs 500 per crate (30 pieces).

The price of medium eggs has gone up from Rs 420 to Rs 470, while that of small eggs has now reached Rs 415. The price has gone up by Rs 50 for all sizes of eggs. Binod Pokharel, the central president of the Nepal Layers Poultry Association, said that prices have started to rise as the demand for eggs has increased. He mentioned that daily egg production, which used to be around 4.5 million eggs, has dropped to about 2.8 million due to bird flu.

At the end of Jestha (June 14), a crate (30 eggs) was sold for Rs 550, but the price had dropped to Rs 450 after the detection of bird flu. The cost price of one crate of eggs comes to Rs 573.60. Each egg costs Rs 19.12. Pokharel mentioned that the price has started to rise as egg consumption has increased.

Even though the prices have gone up, farmers still haven’t been able to get the cost price. Chairperson Pokharel said that farmers are now hoping to get the cost price soon after the rise in egg prices. He said that farmers have suffered huge losses due to bird flu and that the government should provide relief to the affected farmers
